The first Radio Station in Macao was created in 1933, situated in Headquarters of Macao Post. It broadcast 2 hours daily until 1941, under the call signs CQN-MACAU and CRY-9-MACAU.

In 1938, Police Radio Station, belonging to the Public Security Police, was launched. It was located at the present Police Station No 2, near the Canidrome until 1941, under the call sign XX9-RÁDIO POLÍCIA.

In 1941 Macao Radio Club was created, it inherited the equipment and installations of CRY-9-MACAU, and started to broadcast in Portuguese, Chinese and English.

In 1952 the Radio Station “Vila Verde”, owned by Pedro José Lobo, was founded. The studios were situated in a private building, with the call signs CR9XL and CR9XM. It broadcast programs in Cantonese and Portuguese. The broadcasting of Vila Verde was suspended in 1994 until its new operation started in 2002.

In 1962 Macao Radio Club was replaced by Radio Macao, which was managed by an Orientation Committee. In 1973 it was transferred to the control of Information and Tourism Center.

In 1976 a new Radio Broadcasting Public Service, Radio Macao, was established. In 1982, a Public Enterprise TDM was created, it integrated the radio broadcasting services. Now, it provides broadcasting services with both Chinese (Ou Mun Tin Toi) and Portuguese (Rádio Macau) channels.

The Television Channel of TDM, started broadcasting on the 13th of May 1984, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., rotating Portuguese and Chinese programs. From 1990 the broadcasting has been divided into Chinese (Chong Man Toi) and Portuguese (Canal 1) channels.

Macao Cable TV obtained a 15-year concession of cable TV service in the year 1999.

In 1998 and 1999, licenses were issued respectively to Cosmos to provide Satellite Television Broadcasting Services and to Telesat to install and operate a Satellite Television Broadcasting System, a Satellite Management System and to provide its related services. In 2004, MASTV was granted the license to provide Satellite Telecommunications Broadcasting Services.
